SIX PETRINE MOTETS

A set of six sacred motets on The First Epistle of Peter, in Latin from the translation Vulgata Clementina (1592). Each is dedicated to a selected saint who embodies the passage, acting as lapides vivi (“living stones”). Respectively: Sts. Perpetua & Felicitas, St. Kinga of Poland, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Mercurius of the Two Blades, St. Joan of Arc, and St. Andrew Stratelates. Dedicated to my friend, Dawn.

I. Sancti Eritis

II. In Timore Incolatus
1 Peter 1:17 | Et si patrem invocatis eum, qui sine acceptione personarum judicat secundum uniuscujusque opus, in timore incolatus vestri tempore conversamini.
III. Malediceretur
1 Peter 2:23-25 | Qui cum malediceretur, non maledicebat: cum pateretur, non comminabatur: tradebat autem judicanti se injuste: qui peccata nostra ipse pertulit in corpore suo super lignum; ut peccatis mortui, justitiae vivamus: cujus livore sanati estis.Eratis enim sicut oves errantes, sed conversi estis nunc ad pastorem, et episcopum animarum vestrarum.

V. Exsultabitis
1 Peter 1:8 | Quem cum non videritis, diligitis: in quem nunc quoque non videntes creditis: credentes autem exsultabitis laetitia inenarrabili, et glorificata.
VI. Ipsi Gloria
1 Peter 5:10-11 | Deus autem omnis gratiae, qui vocavit nos in aeternam suam gloriam in Christo Jesu, modicum passos ipse perficiet, confirmabit, solidabitque. Ipsi gloria, et imperium in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

A set of five choir songs for choir based on the Strategikon of the Byzantine Emperor Maurice —a war manual from the 6th century. The text, which is found poetry, is not in the audio mock-up. However, you can find the lyrics and the score below:

Also available for TTBB and piano, this work was written in memory of Czech artist and Holocaust victim, Bedřich Fritta. I learned about this artist when I visited Terezín whilst living in the Czech Republic.
Two Songs, Y. 33, No. 1. The music originated from my Piano Suite No. 6, and the lyrics of this work are in the style of a found poem (as assembled by myself). The source is on a biographical summary of Fritta’s life.
Due to this being a simple mock-up, the lyrics themselves are not able to be included in the recording. The lyrics are:
“Wash—
on the second transport
the ghetto artists
ordered to paint
propaganda
clandestine horrors.
Discovered, was their son:
incarcerated and deported.
Wash together, buried in
ink.”

A short work using a found poem of mine derived from the Mesopotamian "Enlil and Ninlil: The Marriage of Sud."
Two Songs, Y. 33, No. 2. The music is derived from my Piano Suite No. 6, and the work ends with a wedding chorus.

“Inform your Lord,
animals came running
freely in the desert
Wild oxen, tigers,
goats and kids ramping,
fighting
White honey and large pomegranates;
date plucking in the winter
